Event Manager

We are looking for a fearless hero to help with events for 500 Startups Japan. We run about 40-50 events a year including small-size (less than 40 people in attendance) to large-size (over 200 people in attendance) events.

The responsibilities of the Event Manager will include:

  • Fostering connections online and offline between portfolio companies to share knowledge and build community (make our community feel like family)
  • Planning and organizing kickass events for founders, limited partners, and 500 supporters. Some of our previous events include Founders Hour, Mentor Lunch, #500STRONG NightDemo Day The Movie, Job Fair, casual outings such as Hanami, BBQ, Anniversary gatherings and much much more
  • Creating and promoting event pages on Peatix, Facebook, WordPress, Connpass, etc.
  • Serve as a concierge for our entrepreneurs, making sure we do everything we can to help them grow
  • Help build our marketing channels (e.g. mailing list, blog, events, social media) to increase the reach of the 500 brand and maximize value to our portfolio companies

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, and a positive energy with a gravitational pull
  • Bilingual fluency in Japanese and English (reading, speaking, and writing)
  • A love for social media
  • A willingness to try new things besides events, such as deal sourcing, content marketing, supporting founders, and hiring talents for startups
  • A genuine passion for technology, and ability to pick up and start using new tools quickly
  • An ability to work in a flat, fast-paced organization and take initiative

We are looking for an intern to join our crew at 500 Startups Japan. This is the perfect opportunity for anyone looking to start a company or break into venture capital. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated passion for startups and technology
  • Excellent Japanese writing skills (preferably experience writing for a blog or other media)
  • Uncanny analytical ability
  • Bilingual fluency in Japanese (Native) and English
  • Ability to pick up and start using new tools quickly
  • Comfortable in a flat, fast-paced organization
